We followed the path on the right side (North) of the parking lot by the sign. The trail was wide and easily followed at first, but eventually deteriorated into a steep climb down looking for a tree limb to hold on. Eventually, our “trail” intersected the real trail and all went well from there. The path on the left (South) side of the parking lot is much easier to follow. Nice views enjoyable.

Really pretty, lots of sand and was slightly hard to find the path at times. Quick and easy trail.

Overall a great trail, although quite steep at times. It was very foggy when. we visited, so views weren't great, but it was still nice. Part of the trail is quite narrow and a bit overgrown, but manageable.

This trail is amazing. Through a rainforest with huge ferns everywhere, over huge rocky dunes, and down to giant cliffs overhanging the ocean. Lots of cool areas for rock scrambling. The arch at the end of the trail is beautiful.

This is a very diverse trail. It’s very easy to get off trail down closer to the cliffs within the dune/sandy areas. I started on the left side of the lot and looped around. The right side is much more lush, the left dappled forest and the middle is cliffs and dunes. Very fun.

Awesome trail with beautiful views! We parked a little south and walked along the Oregon coast trail then joined the Indian sands trail!!! Love it!!!

Trail gets a little lost at times so have your alltrails map out. Not too hard to refind it. Great views. Hike goes through trees, sand, and rocks. Neat tree canopies to walk through. Steep in certain places.

Lots of loose sand. Don’t go in sandals or flip flops because the sand gets very hot. Easy to lose the trail in the sand. The best views are south of the sand. Also, dogs don’t wear shoes. Very pretty but there are many better hikes at Samuel Boardman.

Beautiful short trail with interesting, fairly lush fauna (this was late July). Great views of the ocean & rock formations, very cool patch of small, limestone sand dunes seemingly out of nowhere. I was surprised at how truly pretty this trail was, it had some very nice contrasts with the greenery, flowers, rocks & sand. Our teenagers really enjoyed this although they usually prefer longer hikes, we took our time but this could be a quick excursion; we went late morning & only ran into one other family.

Is it possible to change the rating of a trail from “easy“ to “moderate“? Going downhill from the parking lot north was one of the steepest terrain’s we have encountered on this trip. As other reviewer‘s have noted, there are many crisscrossing trails and everyone we met was trying to figure out where they were. Don’t get me wrong, there are some beautiful vistas, but this is definitely not a “easy“ trail!

One of my favorite stops on the 101 along the coast. Easy to miss. Gorgeous views and the wind and sand were tons of fun. The trail was not well marked and fairly confusing with crisscrossing paths. Even if you lose the trail though you can’t really get lost because of how short the trail is and the fact that it’s bordered by the ocean. So... like, the parking lot isn’t that way

We enjoyed the walk and the views WERE excellent, however it was impossible to stay on "the trail" because there were so many tracks crisscrossing in every direction. Once on this trail the only marker we saw was for the Oregon/Pacific Coast Trail. As we saw that we were nearing the end (we walked the trail clockwise) and our position had been "off trail" most of the time, we had a choice - continue on a beautiful well maintained smooth and gradually inclined trail that continued farther "off trail" toward the North, or (again off trail per the map) follow a VERY rough and very steep narrow foot track up a ravine in the general direction we had thought to go. Thankfully we chose to take the broad way this time. It went gradually up the steep slope, zagged back and turned out to highway 101 about 150 yards from the entrance to the parking lot. Better trail markers are needed.

Short, easy hike for an incredible view. The trail was a little hidden heading back from the beach, so we were happy to have this map.

Beautiful hike! Very steep at the beginning and end (wouldn’t call this an easy hike) but well worth it.

Amazing!! So much to explore once you get to the sands, it's a natural playground! Take the loop counter-clockwise to get the best views. The walk down on the north side of the loop is unbelievable. A hike down the cliffside with natural gateways made of overgrown shrubs, overlooking the waves crashing into the rocks below. One of my favorite hikes in this area.

Nice views and trails to explore. If you’re planning to do the loop option use your map, the trails aren’t marked. Pretty steep ascent/descent, but luckily it’s short.

Indian Sands is amazing. Really makes you think about how all that sand got up so high. We could feel Indian presence. One of our favorite places to go.
