Decided to go out with my son and do some winter hiking. Headed up Sand Canyon and east toward highway. Left at all trail junctions back to parking lot. Three hours and a great hike. Plenty of snow on top 6-8"

This trail up thru Sand Canyon is definitely a eye catcher from the top. If u are trailrunning this section be on the lookout for mountain bikers coming down. I almost got wiped out by one a couple years back. Once u get up to the top of Sand Canyon you can go east over the barbwire fence and loop back to the trailhead or for a much longer ride/run head west and go to the summit. Then head south down the very difficult to bike backside of HorseRidge turning west and right at several trail junctions. This route will take you to the old highway which then you head east back to your vehicle

This is really a mountain biking trail. Hiking up it wasn't very much fun.
