Went a few days after the Historic storm trails at some point we’re almost not passable. Felt like I was in a walking dead episode. But it was a beautiful disaster.

Fairly crowded by river but the upper trails were very empty. Only passed 2 parties on the upper trail.

Good smells, quiet trails, a little slippery from mud and wet leaves of course. A few people not wearing masks but very few people out overall so it was easy to go around each other. I took lots of side trails and loops off the main trail.

Outstanding way to start the day for sure. This park is popular so arriving early is definitely suggested.

Not very well marked I had to follow my phone on trail app but beautiful views well shaded makes for a great run.

Nature trips

Bathroom open Heavy traffic area Heavy noise pollution I completed a larger loop including the paths down to the river. The wood chip trails through thick foliage are great for families and the park offers plenty of areas specifically for dogs. The Sandy and rocky side of the river is a great way to relax or fish while watching the many people on the river. Though there is a good amount of nature and wildlife, this busy park is full of people and the sounds of people on the river or nearby roads. It lacks the sense your out of the big city but does offer a nice well maintained trail system and access to water.

This is a fairly easy trail. It’s basically flat the whole way around except for a couple quick steep switchbacks to get through these little gullies. Dog friendly. Good for trail running. These trails are beautiful, but it’s all the same after a while. I would recommend going down to the river to get a little more variety in scenery.

Beautiful trail! Some parts paved, other parts not. Mostly shaded with a couple of open areas with benches to sit or eat.

First to Review

Today I hiked nearly every segment of this outer park loop along with nearly every other trail in Mary S. Young State Recreation Area. While this route isn't necessarily the "best of" the park in one loop, it offers a well rounded, satisfying experience. I recommend including some of the trails with elevation change and more "raw" scenery near the river, especially to the northeast of the park.
