A great short hike to amazing views of Mt. Jefferson. On top of Hawk Mountain the only thing that remains is the old cabin. The site was developed in 1919 with a 60 foot three-legged timber platform tower and a frame cabin (still there). The site was abandoned in the 1950's.

We loved this trail. Although rated moderate, we found it to be fairly easy. The shack at the top is very charming. We had lunch and waited up there for a couple hours, hoping the clouds would clear the way for a view of Mt Jefferson, which sadly did not happen. We will come again. Fabulous trail. Great experience. Took about 80 minutes to go up, and 50 coming down.

This is a great trail with a variety of small and delicate plant life to view along the way. The trail is mostly shaded, but there are a couple areas that are more exposed and offer great views. Beautiful views at the top. I'd say the difficulty level is more easy-moderate than moderate-hard. The last short stretch before reaching the top is the most significant change in incline along the way. It's a good hike for nature lovers.

Nice little hike. It was a little hazy at the top, but otherwise good weather.

Make sure you start at the Rho Ridge trail first! It is on the right side of the road. Then after 1.75 miles you will see a fork in the trail with Hawk Mountain trail. Beautiful place and history!!

Well worth the elevation gain at the end! There is still lots of flowers in bloom you just have to wait until the end to really get an amazing view. Lots of butterflies.

After a moderate two mile hike in - with the most challenging part at the very end (short stretch) - you reach the top and it is BREATHTAKING!!! The little cabin is absolutely adorable and well-preserved. There are so many butterflies fluttering around this time of year. This is my new favorite hike!

Beautiful short hike with lovely views and dense forest along the way. Amazing reward at the top with a step back in time to the lookout cabin and a vista of mountain views.

A little further "out there" means more solitude. Trail is easy to navigate if you've brought a map, the trail is as described save the last .5 mi feels steeper than I'd expected. The history of the very neglected watch makes this a great hike even if you don't have cloud breaks for magnificent views.

Awesome views at the top and a cool old cabin. The last 1/2 mile or so is the steepest. My 3 year old daughter hiked the whole thing.

Not sure why this trail is rated easy and Rho Ridge is rated hard?? (Hawk My is the harder part of Rho Ridge...) worth the work to get to the top, see the historic shelter, sign the book and check out the views.

This was an amazing family trip. Number 2 family backpacking trip and we had tons of fun, and adventure. It snowed after we got there, and the kids loved playing in it! Fire pit available, and the cabin made everyone much more comfortable, especially with the snow. Our youngest at 6 was able to conquer the elevation at a slow but steady pace and minimal stops. We didn't get to experience the view due to clouds, and snow, but that didn't make/break the trip, or experience. I would love to go back here just for a clear night to see the stars!

Nice hike. Love that you are able to go inside the cabin and even stay. There is a notebook in there to leave your name. Would love to come back and camp, maybe when snow is falling. Good view of Jefferson.

Amazing hike during the fall for fall colors! We saw no one on the trail and it was super easy to follow and not get lost. The cabin was also fantastic to check out. Definitely a must hike! Getting there.... GPS takes you past the trailhead. 4 way gravel intersection turn left, when you come to a T-intersection, trailhead is on your right, park anywhere along there. Trailhead sign says Rho Ridge TR #564. 3/4 of the way there, there is a sign for hawk mountain turn right and follow it up.
