Getting There

The Discover Pass is required for vehicular entrance to this park. An Annual Pass costs $30 and a Day Pass is $10. An off-the-beaten-path Gorge hike with good view or two.

It starts-off at the Equestrian Trailhead, which has an insane amount of parking and a pair of composting toilets. A discovery pass is required (and it's policed, as it's so close to Beacon Rock).

Who do you need to contact? You know how to get there and you have legs, so hike it! ( ;

Take Kueffler Rd north from Highway 14; it's less than a mile west of Beacon Rock state park. The first road on your right will denote equestrian parking and will take you to the trailhead.

Hiking

Very pretty but there’s still feet of snow at the top, it was honestly kind of miserable for the last couple miles to and from the summit. I’d hold off hiking it till it melts a little more, beautiful though! regardless!

My review is based on the snow conditions today. I imagine on a day with no snow, I’d give it 4 stars. Beautiful sunny day and no wind. Yay! We went clockwise and glad we did, the snow was melting and slushy. Like walking through a snow cone. I was miserable every step. Thank goodness the view at the top was spectacular

Great!

Steady climb! Would be great on a nice day, but would not recommend for a rainy day hike.

IcySnow

Right place, terrible timing! I went there last Saturday, the rain was heavy, the wind was strong, and the snow was deep on the ridge (yes, on my knee)! Due to heavy rain and fog, I couldn’t enjoy any of its beautiful views. I would definitely try it again when it’s sunny out there.

Hiking

Lots of elevation gain for the first half but very doable. There was a lot more snow than I expected up top today so I didn’t do the ridge as I would have had to make fresh prints, so I just did the loop portion but I expect on a clear nice day it would be perfect. Still a lovely hike with plenty of parking, a bathroom and a pay station if needed. Well marked trail.

Running

Great gradual incline with a wide path makes it great for trail running.

Perfect sunny day hike with views of 3 mountains. The ridge is rad. The views did not disappoint. Wide trail at start and finish and a little rocky at the top, but not bad.

Got there at 5:30am, Nice hike got a little rough and icy towards the top but not a whole lot of people I till around 9:30am when I headed down. Few downed branches but you can easily go around.

Nice wide equestrian trail for most of it until it turns to foot traffic only. Beautiful views from the ridge.

Well maintained. Pit toilet at trailhead. Foggy today, but still beautiful! There’s a bit of snow at the top, but mostly just mud youll want good hiking shoes for :)

This trail was gorgeous and so much fun! It was well maintained with a very gradual incline and decline. We made it halfway across the ridge line at the summit just because we ran out of time but we could have easily gone all the way. Not too much snow on the trail, just a bit of ice in some parts. 12/29

Easy first half of trail, then turns into steep switchbacks up to the ridge. Beautiful views from the top. Did this in late December and only hit snow on the last third of the trail.

Hiking

beautiful forest, nice hike on well maintained trail. Got out there about 9:30, a few cars were already in the lot, we saw about a dozen other people over 4 hours. Lots of branches weighed down by snow and ice obstructing the trail. Depending on your height you might be on hands and knees a couple times. Snow above about 2000ft, crampons wouldn't be the worst idea Great views; we didn't go all the way up the ridge spur due to the cold and wind but there were great views of the gorge anyways.

HikingGreat!

Great hike! Well maintained trail. Not too bad of an incline. Easy decline. We didn't make it all the way to the top due to the wind.. but the views are beautiful. It took 2:40hrs to do 7.5 miles. Only saw about 4-5 other people on the way back down. Would definitely do it again!
