I actually missed part of this trail and ended up on 4015 instead of 30. As soon as you leave the lot stay right if you want to go to the shelter. My route had beautiful solitude and fresh powder . Beautiful area.

I couldn't find the Mount Ashland Meadows trail as an option to review so I'm sticking it here since it ends the Grouse Gap sign. Today was my 2nd time hiking this trail, first time back in November. Much prettier hike today with an abundance and variety of wildflowers blooming! It''s 6.8 miles round trip from the parking are on the main road on the mountain to the Grouse Gap sign and back. Elevation increases and decreases are minimal.

I wouldn’t consider this a stellar hike aside from the views. The trail is basically a road and was very busy during my visit in early June. Looked like Disneyland up there, someone with drone was annoying me by hovering close and it was creepy/really detracted from the scenery. Ended up going down the PCT rather than doing the loop, my dog had a great time despite the crowd and drone stalking us.

We went in mid October and the views of Shasta and the valley were very beautiful! It's an easy hike with lots of trails to explore.

Gorgeous hike today with A-mazing views of Shasta. Trail was only partially snow covered and I made it to the shelter easily with waterproof boots.

half the trail is dirt road with traffic. other half is off trail with many footprints trampling native endangered vegetation. Bad routing. Please put people on PCT instead or reroute up to top of Mt. Ashland.

We went on this hike as part of an orienteering class. Armed with only map and compass we plotted a cross country course to Rabbit Ears and successfully scrambled to the destination.

Starts soon after milepost 7 on the Ashland Ski Road, parking on the right. Cross the road and follow the Pacific Crest Trail through the forest with occasional meadows giving views towards Mount Shasta. The trail crosses a dirt road and continues across a broad meadow, this is where the wild flowers start, for this trail is a treasure for lovers of native plants. Trail gradually climbs to a highpoint looking across a broad valley, through the trees glimpses can be had of the destination - Grouse Gap Shelter, still about a mile away. The trail traverses a large couloir crossing small contained streams eventually meeting Forest Road 20. The PCT crosses the road on its way to Siskiyou Peak, another good hike. Turn left down the dirt road for about 400 yards to the shelter which contains a good sized picnic table and a fire ring, close by is a Forest Service toilet. Note there is no water here. Return the same route for a 7.5 mile hike.
