Road is pretty rough, but no trees in the way. There is a spot right before you get on the actual trail where the views are just about as good as the top.

Even with tire chains I barely made it to the trailhead. A large portion of the “trail” is on the (snow covered) road, not too exciting but the view at the top is Great, even thou it was pretty overcast day for me.

We were here today and loved it! The road is very rocky about halfway up. There was a light dusting of snow on the trail, but it was not slippery. The view at the top is amazing. The fire lookout is boarded up for the season, but you can walk around the wrap-around deck for some crazy beautiful panoramic views!

You will need good clearance for the last couple miles of road. There are sections that are more like a stream bed and there are snow drifts. I was stopped about a half mile from trailhead by a deep snowdrift. I snowshoed the whole way. The trail was in good shape, except the last third of a mile. The tree wells, incline, and show conditions were not safe. In a couple weeks the drifts should recede enough to make this doable!
