The first two miles are a bit boring but then once you continue through the parking lot along the upper trail it is beautiful. Lots of ferns, small falls and hiking along the creek in the sunshine. 11.4 is one way distance, so if you want this to be a day trip either make it a through hike or turn around early if you are on foot. You can also camp in the area. Trail is well used by mountain bikers, please share the trail safely and stay alert.

Did a variation of Gales Trail to off the beaten path across the creek and onto a view point on the summit of unknown peak. This was an interesting route that would recommend

Great trail! Very challenging start and then depending on your preference, you can go left at the fork up to Storey Burn which continues the very uphill version, or stay right to run along the river on a easier spur. Either way, the trails have good footing and beautiful scenery. My #1 go to for some serious hill work and relation.

Beautiful day on the trail! We saw one other small group. Trail conditions amazing with a little snow near the Story Burn trailhead. Can’t wait to go back again!

My review is more about the Gales creek trail. The campground was closed during my visit. The trail is open not only for hiking but also horseback riding and mountain biking. The trail is very narrow and often steep. My visit was at the end of January which is definitely not the busiest season and still there were 9+ bikers on this trail. The trail is very long and there are no pretty places you could set as your destination. No viewpoints, waterfalls, rocks or cliffs. After walking for more than ten kilometers, the only change in the scenery was an ugly clear-cut. This trail is definitely not on my list for a repeat visit.

The most basic trail you could imagine. Any pictures of the creek are at the campground but the creek isn't really accessible from the trail. Nothing to see, boring even for trail running or mountain biking.

Great for mountain biking since mountain bikers are typically the only ones who show up for trail maintenance days.

A lot of different trails to explore here. Can be pretty muddy and slick when it's not really dry out. Spacious campsites in the area.

Amazing things to be seen here if you have a good eye.

Trail is well used by bicycles, so stay on alert. Two weeks ago we cleared four downed trees on the portion from Gales Creek Camp to Bell Camp Road; but just last weekend there are two freshly downed trees across the portion up to Summit Trailhead. Stay on alert during the wet season as I heard a tree come down as I was walking to summit last week, just on the opposite of the stream.

I have hiked on this trail several times. It has several side trails that offer new sights so you can return many times with different experiences every time. it countours a beautiful floodplain of Gales Creek.

Beautiful trail. A lot of hills if you start down at the campground. Our second hike this year. The day before we did 8 miles in Forest Park so we were a little sore from that. All in all, great hike if you're looking for an up and down trail.

Did this with my 3 year old in the snow, It was pretty fun and peaceful. A great place to beavers at work in the creek below. The trail, although packed snow was great and was great for a winter exploration.

Went on 4/23/11 and there were a lot of signs saying the trail was closed due to weather damage but we went a few miles back with no issues. It was nice to have the creek along side of us and I really enjoyed the hike back as it seemed like a breeze. Hiked with our 7/10 yr olds. We all had a blast!

Easy to medium trail following a small creek. Connects with several other trails. We started at Summit Trailhead and made a 6 mile loop, instead of the 4 mile round trip. August would be an excellent time to go, because there are lots of huckleberry bushes. Dogs and mountain bikes share the trail.
