Hike the hill at the historic Ft. Hoskins in Benton County Oregon. Easy hike, picnic area, and information nature hike about the former site of Fort Hoskins. This is a narrow winding trail through the forest and medows to a great view over looking the Hoskins valley. Trail is clearly marked, but can be muddy in the winter. From the hillside, you can see the Luckiamute River flowing east in the valley below. The Luckiamute Band of Kalapuya Indians once maintained a village on the valley floor. They were one of the many linguistically and culturally related bands of people collectively known as the Kalapuya who occupied the Willamette Valley.

Husband and I had a good hike taking in the fresh air while we gave our legs a good stretch. We saw very few people and obeyed the 6-10 feet safe distancing rule. Enjoyed the educational signs explaining the area.

My new new favorite hike in the Corvallis area. About 30 miles from town. Very well maintained county park with covered picnic area, clean restrooms. Historic markers explaining the history of the area, the fort, the pioneering families and Native American habitation. Historic home and Captain’s house on the property. Choice of loops from the first parking lot — downhill to the historic area about .6 mile. Fairly flat gravel pathway. Lots of blackberries and apples along the path. Hike uphill from the lot staying left through the cool woods until you reach the top and are rewarded with great views. Downhill portion of the loop mostly in sun. Well maintained gravel and dirt pathway about 1.2 miles. Quiet, peaceful and not another soul in sight.

Upper loop has great views, bottom loop goes through a pretty prairie. The historical markers are dated but readable.
