Hiked this route in August, it is a dirt road and not an actual trail, but it was really beautiful all the same. 3 mile uphill gentle grade to the lookout at the end. There is a spring on the way and we saw deer tracks. Its very remote and we only saw one bow hunter on our way up. The lookout was the best part and was unmanned while we were there so the top level was locked. We walked up to the 2nd level and you could still see 360 views. Saw Mt Jefferson, Mt Hood and the tip of Mt Adams as well as all the way in to eastern Oregon. Want to plan a time to go back when it is manned to get a tour. Saw lots of butterflies, and some chipmunks. Part way the road intersects with the Divide Trail and two other trails but they are difficult. Beautiful views coming down the mountain on the way back to Portland as well.
