Quiet, beautiful escape from town, right in town

Very easy flat trail. Lots of strollers and runners. Not much hiking near the river. Did not like having to walk along Washington Dr to get back on the trail.

This is more a walking path than a hiking trail, but it's a great in and out for a walk/run when in Bend.

The northernmost leg of the Deschutes River Trail is a nice trail with some great views, but overall nothing spectacular. It is a very flat trail but with a total round-trip length of 6 miles, it's a decent fitness hike. Other than the first half-mile along the river, though, and a fantastic stretch near the end overlooking the river canyon, it isn't much for scenery either, and the last half-mile is a complete waste. Unless you're a hardcore completist, I would recommend stopping at the 2.5 mile point and enjoying the views before heading back; you'll have seen everything important. This trail won't require much travel for those living in Bend, but there are better nature trails, better water trails, and better fitness hikes all within 45 minutes. The views make it worth doing once, but you probably won't return. As a side note, the flat straightness of the trail makes it a great running or biking trail as well; no matter what your activity is, you'll be sharing this trail with many people on any day.
