I did this loop in mid July with wife and 5 year old daughter. We camped at Williams lake. The Erma Bell trail was amazing. However, the Williams Lake trail had many sections that were overgrown and there was a ton of mesquites. Overall it was a nice trip and I plan on going back again but I’ll try either earlier or later in the year to try and avoid the mosquitos.

Great trail for some quick weekend fishing. A handful of lakes dot the loop offering some beautiful vistas as you work your way around. I did the entire loop mid-June and the mosquitos went from pretty bad to horrible; the worst stretch being between Willams and Otter Lake. It’s easy to lose the trail on that section, too so stay sharp. Plenty of birdsong to keep you company along your hike with small clearings and meadows punctuating the trail between the lakes. I’d absolutely do this trail again especially if you want a nice, quick backpack fishing trip you can do over the weekend.
