Out and back through Dunn Forest along the creek and through the woods From the 200 gate, follow the road about 1/4 mile to the point that the road goes left and the trail (which is marked) goes straight. Follow this single track as it crosses a stream (very easy unless there is record rain or snow run off) and then heads up to the a gentle climb to the trailhead at the 100 road. This is your turn around point with a nice view of the valley. Follow the road back down to your car. This is a good hike for kids, because you turn around at any point.

Just hiked on last weekend. We hiked this last fall, so to see it in the spring was a treat. More overgrown, probably due to the closure (it's open now). You do end up on a forest road again, and it's a long way back if you go either way. Best to turn around and go back down the trail, and then cut to the right at the fork and take that trail around and down to the road. Makes for a nice hike.

Scout trail was nice, but only about a quarter of this hike. Mostly gravel logging roads. Some nice views!

More fire road than trail. The short section of trail started as flat single track with a few wet mucky areas; the creek was quite full and loud. I was alone until three loud rowdy young men came down from the woods (off trail). I chose not to cross the water due to the rapid flow and turned left instead. At that point the trail ascended rather steeply into the woods. I only found one mushroom despite the moisture, tree cover, and abundant dead trees, which I don’t understand. There were a few wild weeds and flowers. The signs of research are more prevalent here than in other parts of this forest, which I don’t enjoy as much. All in all a nice short hike if you’re in the area.

Just enough elevation for a fairly easy early spring hike! About 55°, sunny, very few people… The stream is full and everything is green! Several different ways to extend this hike if you want something longer. Easy access off of Tampico Road
