This hike starts out more of a tourist stroll, but as you progress it becomes more of a hike, and of course the scenery is something that will stay with you forever. Be cautious if you have kids as later in the hike there are perils such as exposed drop offs. For my full trip report with pics, video, and story see my blog which will have links to other great hikes: https://nationalparkshikingpursuingbalancethruadventure.wordpress.com/2020/02/14/discovery-point-trail/

Memorable experience. Went last year, early July. Not a ton of shade on trail, and can get pretty hot. Wear sunscreen, hat, etc. Place can be pretty packed. Not as many people on the trails. Recommend for your viewing pleasure, 10/10.

Small snowy patches, but nothing impeding trail use. It was a beautiful day out there today!

Stunning views of the lake. Continued on to Watchman Overlook for even more views. You’re never to far from a road on this trail but the lake is so gorgeous you’ll forget about the cars.

easy walk, not well marked at the point.

Great intro trail to Crater Lake. We only walked about half of the trail as it runs along the road the majority of the time. Though there was a lot of street noise, having the Lake in plain view the entire hike was something special.

Amazing views! Pretty sandy and dusty this time of year but would easily do this again!

Gorgoeous views all the way! Very easy until the very end. Dusty, dry.

Amazing view, didn't have to hike since you can drive, park, and walk to the cliff view.

The trail has stunning views of Wizard Island and many awesome picture opportunities. But there are some areas on the trail that have large roots sticking out so be carefully when admiring the views, you could easily fall. It’s not well marked from the road if your driving.

It’s a nice easy hike with nice views overlooking the lake (trail to viewpoint is 2 miles round trip). If you only have 1 day at the park, I wouldn’t waste time on this trail though. The viewpoint at the end is reachable by car, & plenty of other, better hikes!

good first hike for anyone. relatively flat, and tracks the road.

First part is along the road so lot of people. Great view but weird trail. Then it gets more like a real trail and awesome views. Any level hiker can do this and more like a walk.

Beautiful crater rim hike with decent trails-easy. Can get dusty on the trail since many visitors to lake will wander down this easy trail.

A dozen tempting dropoffs to test your bravery or stupidity.

Only trail open right now in late June. Would only come here in July-Aug. wasted visit. Made the most of this only open trail. Started in the tourist Village area and hiked 3 miles towards Watchmans. Snow got deep. Great views. It’s cool to see Wizard Island from different angles. Would definitely recommend this trail after Garfield and Watchman.

Great trail with wonderful views everywhere (both the crater side and the other side). Some snow still on the trail (crampons were nice near the end, but probably not strictly necessary). Lots of places to park/start. This recording was the second part for us after hiking a bit & going back to get the car.
