We started at Benham and walked to Dillon Falls, very enjoyable. Ignored the trail detour and just walked thru the downed tree section.

FYI the first mile of this trail is closed for construction through June 18. There is a trail detour set up that adds a couple miles and it’s the super scenic, but once you get back on the train, there are so many beautiful spots along the river as you approach the falls. With the detour, though, the whole hike was about 9 miles. If you want to avoid the detour, just start at the Slough Day-Use Area. Overall still a beautiful hike on a well-maintained trail!

Great flat trail for a trail run. Some blown down trees to climb over but not many. Awesome falls at the turn back point.

Went on a week day morning. Not very crowded. Based on NF signage, I’m not sure this is a trail for mtn biking. But very casual and great for beginners!

Really serene, lovely section of the river trail. The falls are pretty but the whole trail is great. Forested with the river, quiet, a lovely hike overall. Very easy. Would be great for trail running.

First off, this trail doesn’t have waterfalls as much as it has some river rapids. The ones near the trailhead are pretty cool. Probably should have gone down that path further. Instead we followed the trail, which we regretted. Would have been better to drive to the Deschutes Paddle trailhead a bit further down and then trek to the other falls/rapids. There was nothing interesting between the first falls and that trailhead and it was in the sun for a good part of the way. From the Paddle trailhead to the other falls was nice and followed the river. Also, lots of bikers and other hikers.

Pleasant, rolling section of the Deschutes River Trail between two sets of falls and rapids, ending at a viewing platform overlooking scenic Benham Falls. Popular enough, but we were not overwhelmed by traffic, even on an August Sunday morning. Good for trailrunning, hiking, and casual mountain biking.

Beautiful hike and easy to walk. Well worth going to as you hike along the raging waters that lead to the falls. We hiked on a weekday and it was not crowded at all. Bring water because it is hot when you aren’t in the shade, which is a good portion of the hike. Very well maintained trail. Bring $5 cash so you can pay for parking/entrance fee.

This was a really nice trail! I could totally see why it’s a nice biking trail too....few spots of narrow trails and fun bumps. Starts out really wide, calm and serene and leads to rushing waters and rapids. I even found a spot to pop my travel hammock an just relax listening to the rapids. I didn’t notice any mosquitos but more flies and dragon flies. Enjoyed this one.

Dillon Falls is just a short walk to the north of the parking area and is powerfully amazing! Benham Falls trailhead is Southwest of the parking area and there is no sign, although we had no trouble finding the trail (on the left). We hiked in August and began at 8:30am. We only passed by a few bikers and one couple hiking. We had the trail to ourselves! The trail had a little more traffic by the time we ended our hike at 11:00am. We ran into a small section of the trail that met us with mosquitoes. A couple bites each! Easy hike with our 3yr old labradoodle. Beautiful scenery and the river kept changing, so never a dull moment. I’d recommend this gorgeous hike and I’d recommend doing it early while it’s cool and sparse of people. Oh, and one more helpful hint...there is a pit toilet near parking area and another pit toilet on the way to Benham Falls!

Awesome trail not to busy and well maintained. Went from Benham to Dillon Falls and back definitely worth the hike. My favorite parts were actually the lazier parts of the river watching ducks, geese, and kayakers making their way up and down the river.

Great hike through the forest and along the river! Nice views of waterfalls, rapids and lava flow across the river. Nice views of Mt Bachelor and Broken Top in a few spots too. A little muddy in spots, but it's early April. Trade off is no mosquitoes yet! Yay! Pretty easy hike overall.
