Beautiful, easy hike through Ponderosa Pines, scrub oak, and lava rock formations, down and along the Deschutes River. Dog friendly, off leash allowed..

We did it today, 3/16/19 and without snowshoes. A lot of cats stopped just off the main highway hit with 4WD, we made it further in. The snow wasn’t packed, there may be sections you fall in a bit but overall isn’t bad. Pretty views and the bathrooms are all open, yay!

From start to finish this place impressed me greatly by its beautiful scenery. I wish I had more time to go farther. I especially liked the trail that cuts across the pond. The lava island was cool too.

We couldn’t have asked for better weather for this hike. Cloudy most of the time with a little sun in between. Lava island is so impressive! Got to see some big crows and a pretty flintch as well. Great easy family hike along the Deschutes!

Beautifully landscaped, asphalt and stone path for the most part (some gravel) along the Deschutes river. Visually impressive, easy stroll, enjoy the walk.

Not sure why it’s considered moderate. It’s a nice easy trail along the water. We brought our dog. Lots of spot for her to swim. Bathrooms every 1-2 miles.

Really nice trail along river. Friendly crowd and lots of sweet dogs along the way. I would consider this to be easy and not moderate. There was hardly any elevation gain.

Lots of puddles, the scenery is gorgeous. Lava flow and lots of pine trees, just breathtaking with a light dusting of snow this morning. Hiked from meadow picnic area to Dillon falls, about 6 miles each way. Loved it!
