Lovely short trail. Sunday afternoon, almost no one but us on the trail.

I walked the 2.2 miles of the RED section of this trail system in late January (see map in the photos for this trail).

I accessed the trail-head by driving through the Eagle Crest Resort residential area (there are several access points).

The loop I took immediately descends to the river's edge and then follows it downstream (north) for a bit more than a mile. I would have opted for the larger loop (WHITE route) but had already hiked up Cline Butte earlier in the morning and therefore only wanted to "get a feel' for this area. The trail is also used by trail runner but, on this sunny Saturday, it was very pleasant and moderately used.

There are a few spurs off the trail that provide access to the river. The trail itself is essentially flat along the river and on the top of the bluff (with a quick descent from the parking area and a longer ascent back to the bluff at the mid-point of the loop). The river portion leaves most signs of urban developments behind and provide close up views of not just the Deschutes river but also the cliffs on the eastern side.
Just before climbing back up and away from the river, the views open to the north and to the Cline Falls State park on the far bank.

The return leg follows a carefully manicured and paved path through the residential area and (initially) along the golf course. About halfway back on that leg, the open terrain showcases the Cline Butte area to the west.

Note: this particular loop does NOT provide access the the Cline Falls area which is located further north, across Hwy 126
