Today I hiked this route along with nearly every other trail in Mary S. Young State Recreation Area. There is no lame trail within this awesome park, but I gave this one 3 stars only because it is "less interesting" than most of the others. The diagonal route skirts the side of the sports fields, so there is less a feel of walking through untouched nature. Plus, with all the available loop options in the park, it doesn't really make sense to do an out-and back. Even so, this section is nice in its own right. If you keep looking to the west there is nature - big trees and wetlands to be exact. I found it quite interesting to see how the level of the water was higher than the trail, but the park staff magically kept the water from flooding the trail by using logs and sandbags. Impressive.
