This is one of the less traveled trails in the park. Loads of great trees. Fun walking around the rim of the old volcano!
Nice mature forests throughout. The trail is easy except the climb up the mountain which is moderately difficult. Not heavily trafficked. I only passed one couple the entire hike. This is a nice escape from the crowds elsewhere.
Super rad! Nice and peaceful at the beginning ten a pretty good up hill. You can’t see crater lake but you can see beauty forever! Also, we only saw 3 other people on the whole trail. Loved it.
It is so beautiful at the top and I only passed 4 small groups. The way down it was about 5pm and I was chasing away mosquitoes the whole way. Definitely remember to bring a big repellent.
We did this trail on the Monday after Labor Day. Did not see a soul until we were almost back to the trailhead. Trail is well maintained, mostly soft dirt, some rocky areas. Mostly level with some steep areas, including the final ascent, which was very tough, but completely worth it. Views were stunning, be sure to do the full loop at the top. Plentiful wildflowers, although a touch gone by when we were there.
bring extra bug spray , and maybe a net. those things are relentless. this is a relatively flat walk until the final peak when it's all uphill. most of the hike is shaded. if u go for sunset, be prepared for a pitch black forest to go through, bring your headlamp and a flashlights. views are sparse, but some angles are absolutely stunning.
Beautiful day and terrific views, but lots of mosquitoes the whole way.
amazing view of Klamath valley and Shasta mountain. definitely a butt kicker on the last mile to get to the top but totally worth it! side note mosquitos are very active in this trail so bring some spray and drown in it cuz we didn't and we were running from them the whole way down!
My favorite hike at Crater Lake NP, thought no views of the lake. You will hike through all the fir trees you can imagine. Lots of dead trees at the base makes it suddenly makes the trial eerie. As the peak you'll see Klamath Basin. Slept here for the night and only saw two people the whole time- and that was in the morning hiking back. Highly recommended!
