Cline Butte Loop is a 7.2 mile loop trail located near Redmond, Oregon that offers the chance to see wildlife and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, running, and mountain biking.
It’s a nice little hike but, I think it is better suited for the MTB crowd, judging from the jumps and banked corners.
Great views! I would advise that the best and easiest way to get to the top of the butte is just simply taking the road all the way up at which point you can do the panorama views and then either go down back on the road OR take a mountain biking trail down. Keep in mind the mountain biking trails can be super steep and provide zero traction, not fun if you don't have poles and challenging coming down (worse if you have bad knees). Also there is little to no shade so bring a hat and water--I saw nobody out there end of September, mountain biker or hiker!
Didn’t see a single person on my run. Trail is closed near the middle because of mining. Hard to follow in spots. Views of the mountains are incredible!
As others noted - the map on this app goes through private property and includes a small narrow steep hill that is mainly used for mountain bikers. While you can hike it, I recommend choosing a different hike in the area or making your own path to the top. Nice view.
As others have noted there are a lot of trails that crisscross this area. The app was a definite help. However, the north end of the loop is now fenced with "private property" signs posted. Another hiker mentioned that it has just been fenced because BLM is leasing part of the land for cows to a farmer. We did indeed run into some cows along the trail but they didn't bother us. The recording from the hike has the waypoint where the fence is and the trails we used on the way back.
Beautiful day for a hike. I had my phone out for a majority of the hike because I couldn't find the correct trail. The descent from the top was hard on the knees.
Great trail for people who want a challenge mountain biking or hiking. A lot of uphill and some fun downhills. Great views. Be safe!
Good trail - not crowded on a decent Sunday in October. Very close and easy to park at coming from Eagle Crest. A tough trail run, though - the downhill is loose, rocky, and steep. Also, I was hoping to get to the top of the butte, but that whole area is fenced off for what looks like a cell tower. Still good views, though.
