Great park with a heritage/country feel and this path is accessible all-year long! Start at the Nature Center and wander down the hill, over the footbridge and west along the meadows to watch swifts and swallows feeding and nesting, and raptors keeping an eye on them. In the spring and fall, any planted fields are tilled by late 1800s era horse team - fun to watch. Follow the path west from the open fields into the forested Riverside Day Use area featuring French Prairie/Champoeg European settlement history. This area is beautiful in spring and peppered with wildflowers and chives. The path winds north into riparian forest along the Willamette and this area is full of owls, ospreys, turkey vultures, black-tail deer, and other critters. I have seen salmon popping their heads out of the river here. The trail switches east along the elevated bank of the Willamette which gives users an idea of the unbelievable amount of water needed to flood the area in 1894 and 1996. Follow the riverside trail around another Day Use area known for Disc Golf, and again into riparian forest where the footpath meets with the bike path. In the summer months, follow the bike path all the way to the Historic Butteville Store - they have ice cream! A long loop but a great place to busy your feet! Also, if you are a green thumb too, visit the 1860 Kitchen Garden, a heritage heirloom crop garden just outside the Nature Center.

I’ve been going to Champoeg since I was a little girl, it’s always great. Perfect for beginners, people with kids, or just to get out for an easy hike! There are tons of different trails to shorten or lengthen your hike which is always nice. :-)

I've been hiking here before. It's a great hike for beginners. Not too difficult. Wish the view along the rivers was better though.

Easy hike - went from the visitor station to the little market 3 miles away and back. Wish there was more river access!

The path I took was entirely paved. The area is beautiful and definitely feels like you're out away from the city. Good for biking.

I did the Townsite Trail and looped back on the bike path. Had an off-leash dog come after my leashed dog (per leash rule). So irritating. He was fine, but I saw several dogs off leash. FYI.

I started on the Townsite Trail and then looped back on the bike path. Nice, low crowd April Saturday morning hike with my leashed dog. Until...an off-leash dog came after us. My dog was fine, but the other owner was a total jerk. Why can't people follow the trail use rules, especially if their dog is aggressive? The experience ruined what started out as a great experience. I saw a few other dogs off leash by the docks. So, if you're a dog person and don't want issues, leave your dog at home for this one. People just do not follow the leash rule when on the trails. Too bad.

nice long walk, well gromed trails and great scenery. I rated it a four cause there probably would have been too many people if it was warmer out.

Not a bad trail. I biked a lot of it. Considering it's length, I would suggest doing that if you're looking for a short trip into nature. It's a short drive from Portland and a nice area. Not a lot to see if you spend your time hiking it in my opinion.

The walk from the park to the historic Butteville Store is very pleasant. It is quite easy, as the trail is paved and the only incline is on the return from the Butteville Store back to the trail. There are pleasant views of the Willamette River along the way and lush green forests with huge trees. There are also more trails within the park, again very easy with little or no incline and well-maintained trails.

Regarding the Townsite Trail near the actual park, I've always enjoyed this quick and easy walk with my dog. I let him off leash often and let him scout a few feet ahead of me. However, the mosquitos are bad at certain times of year - wear sleeves, scarf, and bug spray.

There are lots of campground trails to explore, and a fun general store at the end of a long hike from the entrance. it was a nice time.

Don't waste your time on this one. I wouldn't even call it a real good trail. ends in the torn bushes.
