What a wonderful welcome back to hiking!! Due to a very bad injury have been off hiking for 21 years. We took our first real hike here and what a welcome! It was not only just the right amount of up and downs, but, since we took the sky crest loop, we also got breathtakingly beautiful views. I can recommend this trail wholeheartedly to those that are not in the best of shape or need a nice lightweight hike. We went in the evening and it was quite pleasant. Enjoy!

Bathrooms at two trailheads Pet friendly Horse friendly Not the best map and easy to get off track even though the trails have markers Kid friendly depending on trails you pick A friend and I hiked the outermost trail systems creating a loop starting at Espey Rd Trailhead. Early in the morning there was little traffic but it is a heavily used area. The views on the Skycrest loop are looking into the mountains. The trees are mostly Oak, Pine, Manzanita, and Madrone. There are lots of flowers starting to bloom but the area isn't in full bloom yet. Difficulty varies depending on the trails you choose to hike but none require careful attention. The path is mostly dirt and granite. Some areas are exposed to the sun while others are shaded.

Cathedral is my favorite place for trail runs. Lots of intertwined trails, fun exploring with the kiddos.

Cathedral Hills is a great biking trail for a quick training or recreational mountain biking. There are some short steep uphill burst riddled with fun and fast downhills! The trail is not too dusty and for the most part smooth. Watch out for the occasional Tree root, but if you’re ready for him, they make a great jump! Have fun.

Better than walking on a road or track, nothing scenic or exciting. Heavily used by bicyclists. Many dogs off leash and plenty of poop on the trail. Good to get your exercise on a trail system close to town, otherwise not a great place to walk. Jacksonville trail system is much better, and less trashed by people.

Nice. Espey to Backside, to Hogback, up to ridge, steep down on Hogback to picnic table intersection with Outback. Right onto Outback, right onto Skycrest (or is it called Timber Riders here?). Left onto Madrone Loop. Right at end of loop, back onto Skycrest and back to Outback. Start up the steep Outback Hill, right onto Timber Riders. At intersection with Hogback and Outback, right onto Outback... and back to Espey.

Beautiful in the fall and spring. Depending on which side trail you walk it can go from easy to moderate to very taxing (for short distances).
