HikingGreat!

Did this hike about a week ago and the weather was AMAZING. Went early in the day so not many people were out and about until I was leaving. All of the trails were in good condition, only slightly muddy in a couple spots.

After the overview trail it was the best hike in the area. We arrived on top an hour bevor sunset, best light for nice views and photos.

Really nice views. No shade in the heat. Not a long hike.

This is the only hike in Painted Hills that I’d actually call a hike. The others are more like strolls or short walks. This one is legit and well worth it as you receive a 360 panorama from the summit.

If you're hoping for overlook views, though a tad busy, this is your spot. Elevation gain is well paced, and conditions couldn't be better early spring.

Hiking

The whole area of the painted hills is absolutely beautiful. But this is my favorite of the five touristy trails available for hiking. It's a decent hike and a good, quick workout. It also feels more like a hike than just a quick walk with views. Steeper grade and narrower trail make it relatively less trafficked. The views are gorgeous at the top as well as along the way. If it's wet and muddy out, the trail can be really slippery and dangerous. Today, however, it was in great condition and the hike was awesome.

As there is no shade, we went at sunset. :) Beautiful views and a nice hike. Heard (and saw) a rattlesnake near the top.

As you enter the parking area the parking sign is the first thing you see. The trail will be behind you. Really nice view of the hills most of the way up and along the ridge. It’s fairly easy.

Great trek to the top.The views are amazing. It’s 3/4 of a mile up. Not a hike but not to be missed either. If your not use to the elevation it would be considered a hike. Very narrow. I wouldn’t say kid friendly as there’s shelf rock and a cliff. Very windy. Beautiful

Super short with no shade, we went early enough to take dogs out but if it's after 9am it might be too hot; the views weren't necessarily better at the top but still glad we went up. Amazing area with some educational info at the parking lot.

Painted Hills is an awesome landmark because you can see millions of years revealed in the different colored layers of the mountain. Take the Carroll Rim Trail for a viewpoint of the hills, but there’s NO shade so if the temps are hot, bring lots of water. I had to spray my dog with water the whole way so he could stay cool and hydrated. If you don’t want to hike, there’s a parking lot where you can get much closer to the hills without having to walk very much. The time of season you visit will determine how many different colors you will see. Since we visited in the summer, the palette wasn’t as colorful, but it was still cool to see.

Short. Sweet trail with good view and payoff. I sat down next to a snake. I wasn't paying enough attention clearly.

if you are into geology then go however my suggestion for others is the following : if you happen to be within 40 minutes of here, go otherwise it may not be worth it. I also agree with the "trail" comment; it is really just a path.
