This cave is pretty easy to get to and is fun to explore - you will probably want a flashlight or headlamp and watch out for bats. All-terrain stroller tires or motorized wheelchairs may be needed on this route as it has a dirt surface. There are stairs required to go down into the cave at the end.

Something about the light rushing into the darkness speaks to my spirit. This is Boyd Cave. It’s amazing to be able to see the flow structure on the ceiling, walls and floors. It is pitch black; bring flashlights and warm clothes and a part of good shoes, the ground will tear them up! My brothers and I had approached what we thought was the end, but if you go over the pile of rocks you can continue to go further into the cave at your own comfort; it gets a little cluster phobic and you have to crawl at some point.

Nice lava tube. Easy to walk for a few hundred yards, then some climbing/crawling required. Not that adventurous anymore. Good way to burn an hour or so.

The cave is immediately by the loop you park on, and it was larger than I thought. There are a few surrounding trails, be careful of which ones you take, as it is flat and easy to lose which way you came from if you aren't actively looking for your connecting trail. Beautiful surrounding scenery of mountains and bluffs in the distance, very quiet. A few bikers out in the distance. My doggo enjoyed it very much!

Great cave and easy to access. Much better than Arnold Ice Cave for the casual explorer. We probably went a quarter of a mile then turned around, but the cave went on for much longer

We didn’t do the trail although we saw a few runners out there, flat and very hot - no shade. The caves, however, were awesome, easy to access and traverse, we went down about 1/2 a mile, we were told if we crawled though on our belly it opened up again and went on for about another mile but we didn’t do that. You must bring a strong flashlight or headlight and jacket. We liked this cave much better than Skeleton and Arnold Ice caves which were a waste of time.

Cave is way bigger than expected. Very cool and a little creepy. Pitch black darkness and incredibly quiet! Make sure to bring plenty of light and some cold weather gear - it’s cold down there.

went here tonight to beat the heat. I brought a fleece and didn't need it at all, felt so good down there lol. I also went at 5pm on a Monday and had the place to myself. It was awesome!! highly recommend. And I left my dog at home d/t risk of bat and racoon feces...

When you pull up, it's hard to tell where the opening is until you see a random person emerge out of the brush. The stairs are fun and, even just going in a ways, was worth the trip.

Very neat location. The cave entry is very ominous and spooky. You instantly descend a set of stairs into the cave. Complete darkness from the point in, so bring light! To reach the cave end you must crawl twice along the way (towards the end) but it's not too tight. The sign notifies of bats, but we weren't lucky enough to see any.

There is really no trail to Boyd's Cave. You literally drive up to the cave entrance and climb down the stairs. Thus the low rating. The cave is really cool, however, and worth the effort. Bring a flashlight and hard hat and a jacket as it is quite cool inside. To see the extent of the cave you will have to crawl through a very low ceiling on the right fork of the cave. Beautiful high desert terrain above ground.

This is a fun and easy to find cave. Bring your own supplies, there is nothing out there. It is literally a hole in the ground that has a ladder and you climb down, then begin walking through the cave. I saw a really gross looking cave spider web down there though, and I won't lie, it freaked me out.
