Dog friendly, kid friendly out and back trail. If you are coming from Bayocean Rd. You can park at the road blockade and it’s just about four miles round trip to the lighthouse and back. Some hills, but not too bad. Plenty of shade and beautiful sights of ocean, forest and lighthouse.

The “loop” is just on the driving road to all three spots. I would just drive to the spots. They have parking lots.

There are some incredible sites on this trail including the oldest Sitka spruce tree in Oregon and the octopus tree. And it appears as if they are cleaning up the trails, and putting in some new trails. The only downfall is the amount of time you have to spend walking on public roads.

We ended up on this hike as plan B since it was foggy the day we were in Cape Perpetua: we planned to do Saint Perpetua but this trail didn’t disappoint! We were the only ones on the trail headed towards the tree and passed a couple groups on our way back. Great for a misty rainy day because the tree canopy provides good shelter from the rain. The tree was impressive too! Only downside is the campground on the other side of the river the entire way but there’s enough greenery to make you still feel secluded. Highly recommended for someone wanting a quick hike in the forest!

Definitely worth it! It may be short, but it is quite enchanting seeing the old growth Forrest!
