Nice little trail within the Prineville City Limits. The trail gives you the chance to explore the Barnes Butte area without climbing the actual Butte. Start your hike at the Barnes Butte Trailhead and head along the road that leaves from the west end of the parking area. After you go around a small hill, the road will split and you should take the right fork. The road will condense down to a trail shortly and there will be a couple fences with walkovers to pass through. There are trails that wonder all over this area. To complete this loop, start angling to the left and head up the ridge. You will get most the way up it before the trail will begin heading back down again. Soon you will find yourself back on a road. Head to the left and return to the first fork you encountered near the old irrigation pond.
