Very flat trail except the beginning part. Although it is the top of the hill, the view is completely blocked by the trees. Barely see the river below. The fun is on the ground. So many different mushrooms.

The trail head for horses is not from the actual park side, but from above Alder Grove at the end of SE Homan Rd. Limited trailer parking, difficult for long rigs to turn around if there are more than a couple of trailers. The part of the trail leading down to Alder Grove is very steep with tight switchbacks and can be slippery after rain. In several places the trail is just a few feet away from a steep cliff. Horses should have experience doing turns on their haunches and negotiating some stair steps in steep terrain. The actual Alder Grove trail is flat and easy.

Beautiful hike! The beginning is up a steep gravel road, then the rest of the hike is flat. The trail offers a few peeks of the river below but trees mostly block the view and it’s way too steep to want to venture off trail. There was a downed tree across the trail. Combined this with a few other hikes in the park to make a 5 mile loop. Lovely.

Im a beginner but this was fun. we did not do the loop outlined here but there are plenty of trails to take and places to explore, plus you can hop in the river when you are done. Fun times and I'll be coming back to see more.

Most definitely relaxing, easy hiking, family friendly, and it's pretty amazing to see their old growth forest, the amazing HUGE trees! I almost always see wildlife here including: deer, rabbits, squirrels, heron, otters, beaver, osprey, and many other types of birds.

A nice hike well above the Sandy River. Not sure why they refer to this hike as Oxbow CG. There is not a CG. This hike starts at the end of a road in a wooded residential area. There are 6 “No parking at any time” signs at the TH. I parked in a small lot less then 1/4 mi back down the road and walked to the TH. A nice hike that descends to a bluff area where you hike the loop and then ascend back to the TH. Peek-a-boo views of Mt Hood and Sandy River.

Family fun camping. The wanna-be rangers are kinda rude and bossy. Ignore them and you'll be fine!

Beautiful stretch of the Sandy & probably wonderful camping. We visited for a day hike & completed a 5 mile loop. A good stretch of the hike was parallel to the road which was a bummer. However it was still a nice mellow hike close to Portland. We started at the entrance & followed the trail up to a fire road that led up to a meadow "G" & looped around back to the start. There were lots of mushroom hunting & fall foliage.
