This trail is about to disappear. It's actually a very pleasant hike in spite of the fire damage and over growth. Loads of wildflowers and vistas. I rated it low because the first 1.5 miles is being consumed by woody brush, the rest of the trail is disappearing into grass and wildflowers and because there is little view from the top due to a crown of trees. You can see Mount Mazama and Thielsen from one spot. The rest of the butte is a fantastic wildflower meadow and has a great view south of Mcloughlin and Shasta.

Hiking

This trail has everything you could want- it’s in the middle of nowhere but has pristine forest roads leading to it, amazing views from Thielsen to McCloughlin from the top of the divide, wildflowers all over the place, mix of forest, meadows, and cliff-sides. Do not park where this map shows, go slightly further on the road and turn right and look for the next road on the right. You can park here or go ever further in your car until you hit a blocked old road. That old road is the trail. It’s very very overgrown, with blow downs. It gets better after you hit the low point and start going up. Saw cougar sign but no bear sign or actual animals. Did hate that you have to go uphill at the end of the hike back, my dogs were hot and tired and wanted to be done by then. We will 100% hike this gem again. No water on the trail, pack plenty.

Hiking

Great hike but the trail wasn’t that well maintained so pay attention to the pathway. We definitely love the prospect area and recommend the scenic hike but we where a little disappointed not seeing the bear that everyone was mentioning. Beautiful views!!!

Decent hike that took the better part of a day. Sadly, the views from the lookout and surrounding trails were severely limited by wild fires.
