Stinchcomb Wildlife Refuge: East Trail is a 5.1 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Oklahoma City, Oklahoma that features a river and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from March until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
It was alright. It’s pretty flat. It’s easy to follow. It does not get you very far from civilization. Plenty of urban noise.
decent out and back city trail. lots of downed tree limbs from the ice storm but not many on the trail. the only real thing thats a downer i can say about this trail is how many people take their dogs and don't clean up after them. also their were multiple dog poop bags just left on the ground. it's sad how people are so careless. we look forward to multiple hikes here to get ready for bigger trips.
The entrance to the trail isn't well marked. It also has a sign that it is for hunting season, which is worrisome for a walking trail. It is, however, very pretty. It is a good flat trail for people of all abilities.
keep an eye out for sink holes and wash outs... and maybe dog poo. obviously a lot of people who don't know how to clean up after their pet use this trail. the first 100 yards is a minefield of turds.
Nice day for a walk. Little muddy and wet off trail but the main trail was as good as always.
It was nice. Just a little sloppy with all the moisture we’ve had.
When you get to the parking lot there are no signs indicating where to begin. I wound up asking a passerby who said that the trail itself meanders all over the place and pointed to a dirt road that had many trail heads along the way. I took one and after about 20 minutes it ran out into a bunch of brambles. This happened everytime I took a trailhead. I finally gave up and just stayed on the dirt road which was a nice walk for about 2.5 miles. When I got to the end I just turned around and went back the way I came. That is what I recommend...stay on the dirt road. If you take any trailhead you will be in the wood for a short time before it dead-ends to nowhere.
Little rough on the last quarter mile due to many downed trees due to last ice storm but very pleasant none the less.
Great urban trail. Little hot and humid today but was mostly tree shaded!
There are trails that will take you into back country, which is wonderful to have so close to the city. They're not well travelled, often flooded, and easy to lose. Come prepared for bushwhacking. Long pants required, long sleeves and waterproof boots highly recommended.
