South Border Trail is a 3.4 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Indiahoma, Oklahoma that offers the chance to see wildlife and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking.
I kept going west where one would normally turn around. came out near lost lake. luckily after 10.5 mile a ranger stopped to give me a ride to my truck.
Beautiful day! Fall Season in full swing. Get out there quickly so you don’t miss it
Lots of tree branches fallen across the first .75 miles of the trail.
Seen some deer. Did not know of the incline on this trail and started a 5k. Managed to do it in 37 minutes still.
Fire road that runs along the edge of the Army base, so it’s well maintained. The road it pretty long. You could do an all day out and back. A lot of wildlife sign. I used bug spray and didn’t have any problems with ticks or mosquitos. All in all a great trail. Will definitely be going back.
Perimeter ranger trail, so it is wide enough for trucks. Freshly graded by heavy equipment, so smoother than many other trails in the area. On 1 July and about 3/4 mile in, the trail is covered by marsh/muddy water. You will get muddy if you want to proceed. I was able to take the trail all the way to Cache Creek (2.5ish miles in), where it is covered by water again. It was a good 75 yards wide and up to 18" deep. Started to cross, but it was getting late in the day so I decided to turn around.
This was a pleasant surprise! Per previous reviews, I anticipated a flat semi boring hike with a fence to my south the entire time (the beginning made me concerned), but this ended up having everything- length, climbing, a wonderful clear stream at the end. My 14 year old said it was her favorite on the reserve to date. Would be great for smaller kids, just do when it’s cool and bring plenty of water! The trail is super wide. No sightings of a lot of wildlife like I previously have on trails down here, but it was scorching hot and in the middle of the day. Lots of mini frogs and pretty dragonflies and birds!
Beautiful trail! We hiked it when it’s been raining for a couple of days, so it was flooded right at the front. If you can trudge through knee deep water, the rest of the trail was great!
Was a nice trail once you get to the top. Trail was really well maintained
We didn't do the full trail. We veered off mid-way and scrambled up some boulders. Found a little cave and some pretty good views! We will do this again and do the full hike. Trail is big and wide, good for kids and dogs.
Nice trail, easy to follow. a few little run off that take you little creaks. very pretty.
