We decided to take on the 6 mile loop of the Eastern Shawnee Trail. The 3 mile that makes up some the 6 mile loop is less traveled, thus the recycled wood chips are clumpier than the three mile trail & of course, more challenging. I would recommend wearing hiking boots due to the different types of terrain you’ll encounter. The Shawnee Tribe had just held their zombie run, so the three mile section had nice Halloween decorations. It took us about 3 hours to do the entire 6 miles. We didn’t encounter another person & our dogs loved it! I’d highly recommend it, if you’re looking for a maintained trail in the woods. Thanks Eastern Shawnee Tribe for providing a free trail system!

The trail was less a trail and more a road. It was covered in a deep layer of wood chips which made parts of it spongy sort of like walking in sand. If we lived close it would be great for walking or whatever exercise your into. Also the directions to the trailhead are wrong here. Turn between the casino and gas station. There looks like a gravel parking area behind the Shawnee wellness center.

We don’t have many trails around here so it’s nice to have but that’s about the only positive thing I can say
