This is Not a hiking trail It IS a great walk 2.77 miles up the road that never flattens out. Folks use it for a variety of workouts. Running, walking, biking, and yes a good backpacking warm up. But it is more than that because the views as you go up and around the mountain constantly change and are beautiful. With very limited car traffic the roads are largely protected for foot traffic the majority of the week. For that reasons even families with small children are making the hike. BTW: the rest of the Wichita Wildlife Refuge has so much more to offer to make the trip to this part of our state a very worthwhile experience. While you are in the area try a MEERS Burger in Nearby Meers,Ok or some great food in the quaint little town of Medicine Park.

I took the boulder field most of the way to the top and really enjoyed the challenge. I was able to boulder most of it and got into very limited brush/grass. Once I hit the road, I stayed on it up and then down. Weekdays (Mon-Thurs) you share the road with cars. Most drivers are courteous, but had one come zipping around. Stay aware! I've hiked/ran this trail many times. Always enjoy it and the view at the top.

First time to hike, lots of elevation, make sure to bring water and sunscreen in this heat. Almost got to hot. Recommend to do it early as you can. Beautiful views make it worth the two hour drive to hike.

Nice walk with a decent elevation gain. It is on asphalt so good for people who don’t like much terrain. Brought our 8&5 yo with us and got bored with hiking on pavement, we had to get them excited for rock climbing when we made it to the top. Awesome views and lots of rocks to climb around on.

Not a bad walk but it’s all on asphalt. Good elevation gains for Oklahoma and great views

Rock climbingRocky

I could have picked numerous activities for this one. Nestled within but dominating the surrounding landscape of the Wichita Mountains sits this seemingly out of place monster. Since this specific to just Mount Scott, I chose rock climbing. The rocks have a “grip” to them especially the HUGE boulders. There are thousands of hidden cubbyholes within the boulders as well. I don’t do snakes, so I typically would go in the winter months to avoid encountering a rattlesnake or something else. Such a wonderful place!!!

It's something to climb. Grandma may even be able to do it but, make sure she's committed or else send her back down by herself. Good views. Steady incline.

Beautiful views the entire way up! Go early so you can hike it, they open it up to cars after noon. Unfortunately, it's paved the entire way but the trek up is worth it.

Scenic driving

I always enjoy the views going up, down, around and from the side/top of Mount Scott! You can hike it (takes about an hour and a half for full completion) or drive it and it's lovely either way! One of those places I never get tired of going to.

Loved it! It was very chilly with the wind on the December day but everyone on the trail was very nice and friendly. Walked up it and ran down it. Took about 1.5 hours to complete.

Great hill training in Oklahoma. Getting ready for Pike's Peak Ascent, so this fits the bill. NOTE: Due to current high temps the trail is only open until 10:00 A.M.

It’s not really a trail, more like a paved road the whole way up. Pretty views. The road is closed to cars right now. It’s probably best that way and safer for everyone

Loved this "hike". I hesitate to call it a hike since it is a paved road that is closed to vehicles, due to pending repairs to the road. I knew what it was when I started. I am excited about training on this steep almost 3 mile climb. The views are spectacular all the way from bottom to top. Spent an hour on top, eating lunch and exploring. I will be going early in the morning through the summer months...I think it could be quite hot walking the paved road with little to no shade. lots of people with very well behaved dogs. I would just ask them, please clean up after your dogs.

Took my Boy Scout Troop (most on this trip were 12 years old) on this hike. This hike qualifies for one of the requirements of the Camping Merit Badge (9.(b)(1) Hike up a mountain, gaining at least 1,000 vertical feet) . It takes about 2 hours, plus some time to play around at the top. The Summit is a large area with lots of boulders and is fun to crawl around on. I've been here twice, the first time we drove up before they closed the road - it seems a little dangerous to hike when cars are driving up, it's not that wide of a road.
