Since this looks to be closed to vehicular traffic for the foreseeable future, it makes for a great workout. Going up can be strenuous depending on your fitness level, coming down is a breeze. I went up on a sunny Sunday in February, there were probably about 50 people on foot or on bikes. Lots of people with dogs. One dog tangled with a porcupine and I had to help the owner remove about 50 spines from his snout, so when they tell you to keep your dog on a leash, remember there is a lot of wildlife and cacti around. Plan to spend about 2-3 hours round trip depending on fitness level. I saw some rather larger people that made it to the top (I'm not fat-shaming, I was happy for them because it seemed like they felt a sense of accomplishment). So in other words, don't be intimidated, you can do it!
