Charon's Garden Trail is a 4.7 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Indiahoma, Oklahoma that features a lake and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, camping, and nature trips and is best used from April until September.
Beautiful place for a hike. The trail was in good condition in most places. Somewhat difficult to follow in a few spots. We had lots of fun exploring the boulder rooms along the way.
Wet, cold, tore my shorts in half, stepped on numerous cacti, but my heart is warm and I blazed areas off the trail in various parts. Good first day with ill-prepared clothing and no knowledge of the area! RAD!
Out and back. Last quarter is not well marked. Just follow the creek bed
This is an out and back. The first quarter is pretty easy. The second quarter includes a field of boulders, which was the most challenging part. Children were completing the boulders easily though. I would recommend staying right (west) to skirt the boulders rather than trying to go straight through. Third quarter gets a bit over grown
A good moderately challenging trail and get a little extra halfway in to scramble up for a beautiful view. Rocky.
This is one of my all time favorite trails! I often look for the difficult hikes, that require bouldering and this is definitely that! It took me about 2 hours yesterday to reach the trees just before the base of the mountain. That required some steep up hill bouldering that was very difficult getting down from. But the goal is to reach the top of the mountain in the next 2 weeks!
Did this trail last weekend. We thought the trails would be empty due to the Covid scare, but they were more packed then ever! The main parking lot was full we had to park a 1 mile away and walk to it. That's fine. The trail was worth it. We did the Charon's Garden trail to the waterfall on the other end of the trail. Don't remember the exact distance we did but it was vaguely 9 miles total I think. From Trailhead to Waterfall back to Trailhead start. The trail was absolutely beautiful. No mistake. The waterfall was a pretty little site to behold at the end of hiking 3 hours along red dirt. Total time on the trail was 6 hours. Took us 6 hours to do maybe 10 ish miles according to the FitBit. Expect to spend more time there tho, so much to do up top There is a boulder field exactly 1/2 way through the path. You will have to do it both ways back and forth. On the way in took us 45 minutes to do. Many times we thought we were gonna die. On the way back out it was only 15 minutes end to end. Probably been shorter but the GF got scared for some reason. Like c'mon you've already done it once... We had to leave since it was starting to rain and the rocks were getting slippery. But if the weather was nice, we would have stopped and either had a picnic or napped underneath the sky near the waterfall. So much land that you can just explore. Somehow it all ties together. In terms of animals, just bison, lots and lots of big, fat bison. Overall, loved it! My friend recommend this trail 8 years ago. Didn't do it then. Should have listened to him : )
