Great trail! We had two children with us also and only the 6 year old had to be carried. Our nine year old hiked it like a champ! It was very overgrown and TONS of ticks but for a family that doesn’t hike it was a lot of fun! Seen deer and I’m pretty sure the vultures were preying on me and hoping I would pass out lol I would def do it again but be sure to wear appropriate clothing and probably leave the kids back.

This was not an enjoyable trail for hiking unless you enjoy a 6 1/2 mile obstacle course. Thankfully there were easy-to-see trail markers, as wandering off trail was a regular occurrence. There was an area of approx 150ft of poison ivy/oak covering the trail, so we had to detour off the trail to avoid coming into contact with it. The horses have bogged up most of the trail so it was difficult for us to find a good hiking pace. For the last 1-1.5 miles, we walked along the highway rather than trudge and dodge our way through the remainder of the hike.

We had a deluge of rain 2 days ago, but trail was already drying out. There were still some muddy sections, but nothing we couldn’t skirt around. We only did small section of trail near Echo Ridge. Trail was well marked.

Trail was a little hard to find from the visitor center, but after that it was pretty easy to follow. Sometimes you had to walk up to the marker to find the next one. Nice hike, being the end of June it was very muggy and due to the lake being up some crossings were flooded. We were able to go up stream a little and find a crossing. The trail was overgrown and that caused ticks to be a problem, and we did spot a copperhead on the trail but it gave us no trouble when we safely detoured around it. This was a pretty nice trail. It would be better to hike during early spring or the fall.

This trail is in a heavily wooded area very rugged and lots of bogs. There is not one scenic part on this trail. Its also poorly marked we spent most of our hike trying to figure out where the trail was. Also heavily used by horses.
