Wildwood Metropark Trail is a 2.9 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Toledo, Ohio that features a river and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from March until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
The 493-acre park is bisected by the Ottawa River and has sandy soil indicative of the rare Oak Openings Region. The prairie community at Wildwood is home to many diverse and fascinating plants and animals. In the spring, it is a breeding site for ground-nesting birds such as rufous-sided towhees, field sparrows and American woodcock. Summer brings a spectacular display of prairie wildflowers and grasses, such as rough blazing star, big bluestem and Indian grasses, some reaching 10 feet high.
Very pretty manicured trail that is well taken care of. I would probably call it easy rather than moderate.
The boardwalk trail is fantastic; I was lucky enough to do it in the late evening when there weren't other people (I imagine it gets pretty crowded).
Our route started with a 1/4 mile (+/-) asphalt path, followed by another 1/4 mile (+/-) boardwalk and the rest of our hike was through the woods. It's a beautiful park and I'll be back. There was moderate to heavy traffic but the trails are wide enough in most places to not feel congested. "Stay Active"....
Always a good hike at Wildwood. Toledo has the best Metroparks around.
