Van Buren Lake Trail is a 2.7 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Van Buren, Ohio that features a lake and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
Van Buren State Park offers several miles of multi-use trials. There is a printable map of the trial system available on the OH State Park website. The trials are well marked and maintained. Wildlife is abundant and the trial along the south shore offers nice lake views.
Other trails cross paths and/or align with the Blue Bike trail I'd hiked so just have a picture of the map to look at. Fun trail. Hills, roots, footbridges, zigzags, & half along the lake so lots to look at plus going the correct direction with the blue blazes will keep you on your toes. Would definitely be fun with a bike!
More of a mountain bike trail but nice, quiet wooded place to walk. Beautiful day and overall enjoyed it.
A combination of many bridle, hiking, and mountain biking trails. Very muddy.
Great trail, little muddy in spots. Took our 5 year old and it was easy for her. Would take my dog next time.
Went fishing with my dad here earlier today. Our target fish to catch was Bullhead Catfish, but we didn't end up catching any. However, we did end up catching a few Common Carp and I caught a pretty nice sized Channel Catfish, my first of the year. On our way back through the trail I ended up collecting a handful of pine cones to make bird feeders with.
Today probably wasn't the best day to attempt this hike, but since I just became a pro member, I really wanted to try this app out for myself. The weather this morning was 35 degrees and drizzling. The beginning of this trail according to AllTrails starts directly from the middle of the parking lot. The first directory sign is located near by with park maps available to take. Then you continue from there past the restrooms where another sign is and a short trail to the right that leads to a gravel road/trail. Here on the gravel road is where I would actually consider the trail to actually start, because from here is where you will decide which color path and direction you will take. Now the real fun begins, because the way the trail is marked it is kinda hard to follow accurately. The blue paint markers are easy to spot, but lack any real detail of which direction you should be traveling besides a few arrows here and there. Not only does lack of directional arrows make it hard to follow, but the trail runs near and sometimes overlapping other trails. So, if 100% trail accuracy is your thing I wouldn't advise this trail, many spots leave it to your interpretation of where you should go next.
A nice trail along the lake and into the woods. Not difficult and very lightly used. Enjoyed my hike very much
The only thing keeping me from giving this a perfect 5 is that while the trail was marked, it was ambiguous in many spots. Very easy to get turned around. However, that aside this was an excellent trail through the woods. Excellent trail for the dogs!
Walked the red and yellow trails north of the lake (not the trail as shown here). Snow still on the ground and in some instances ours were first tracks in snow not counting the dozens of trails made by creatures. Deer, rabbit, raccoon, coyote and a couple that were definitely none of the above. The trails were well marked which made navigating through the snow easy. We enjoyed it and look forward to returning in the Spring or Summer months.
