South, Gable Creek, Armour Road Trail Loop is a 3.1 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Avon Lake, Ohio that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
Wooded trails in a suburban enclave known as Kopf Reservation, named after the local developer who donated the land. Approximately four miles total trails -- some paved, some dirt or small gravel. Suitable for walking, biking, dog walking, etc. Many animals can be seen -- deer, squirrels, chipmunks, barred owls, wild turkeys, coyote (rare), great blue heron, red headed woodpeckers, piliated woodpeckers, blue jays, cardinals and many other birds. In good weather walking all of the trails is a very pleasant walk, but you are always aware that you are not really in the woods, but rather in a nice park surrounded by middle class suburban neighborhoods. Great care is taken by the friendly the park rangers who keep the fallen trees off the trails and the trails clear of debris. Clean bathroom facilities are available toward the south end of the park and a public library with restrooms is also available at the northwest end of the park. The park is open dawn to dusk.
Delightful trail that sometimes gave the illusion that you were in the deep woods, but you know you're surrounded by a nice middle class neighborhood the entire time. Trail is very well kept with a lot of traffic. A good amount of overhead canopy is present, so you are not in the direct sunlight. Saw some deer and a lot of squirrels but not a lot of other wildlife. Overall a nice leisure trail that is not strenuous at all.
