Rolling Hills Trail is a 3 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Mount Sterling, Ohio that features a lake and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and nature trips and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
So so nice. Uphill so you burn more calories. Perfect for dogs who love to hike!
if you can ford the river, you can make a great loop out of the trail.
Been coming here for 4 years every spring, but in the last year it appears that this park is slowing dying. Even the lake is drying up (possibly done on purpose via the dam)...though it was cool to walk on the lake on portions that are typically covered by water. Did see a few bald eagles and a bunch of blue herons. This trail starts next to the basketball courts near the lodge and goes all the way to the campground then back. You can take the Rich VanHorn Nature Trail on the way back, it goes around some ponds. Be weary that both trails do get muddy during recent rains. They both were bone dry today.
It was actually a 4 mile trail according to park signs, definitely more challenging than "easy" but a nice hike. I saw plenty of deer and a coyote. A little muddy as expected for this time of year. Nice if you want to get out on a trail with little traffic
good rural trail, didn't see anyone else on the path. a few down trees but that made it more exciting
Great. There’s a foot bridge early in the hike that needs repaired.
I just hiked all the Deer Creek trails and this is my fave. Fairly maintained with some overgrowth. Lots of uphill downhill, 2 spots where they’re missing bridges and you’ll need to climb a wee bit. Beautiful views. Several benches along trail. Took me almost 3 hrs bc I stopped to rest and take pics a lot. Saw a snake, pheasants and about 4 deer before sunset.
Horse manure all over the trail. The park has dedicated horse trails but Rolling Hills trails is for campers or lodge guests. Sad.
Mostly free of people, especially beyond the halfway point. Couple of trees across the way. Some pretty views. 14 horse poops in the middle of the trail.
Overgrown and several trees down. Looks like they don’t maintain very well. Dry for me but probably very muddy in the spring.
In some spots trail was wide enough for 2 people; in others single file only. Came across a few downed trees. Areas of trail need to be cut back due to poison ivy growth. Other than these things a very pleasant hike in very hot weather at 2:30 p.m. 7/1/2020
A nice trail to take the dogs! We go here often for a nice little hike. Would be a great beginners trail. Not too difficult but a few rolling hills. We have gone here during every season. If there’s a lot of rain beforehand I’d be prepared with boots. Water can be covering the trail in the dips of the hills. Our last hike here, 6/1/2020, a lot of logs and debris washed up on the trail. Usually not too busy either which is nice. You can see the lake a little from the trail. Also a bench around 1 mile. Overall a nice little hike that I’d recommend trying at least once!
This trail was very muddy, a little overgrown, but had a nice creek view. Definitely bring hiking boots! I would recommend for someone wanting a water view, and to see animals.
