The view at the end is worth the climb! Great hike but prepare to climb. More steep than we expected. There are signs stating "No Pets Allowed". Also, the sign states that you need a permit to hike this one. oops and oops. We did it anyway since we drove the 2 hours to get there but wanted to let you all know these things. We didn't see anyone else on the trail.

Neat trail. Very wooded area with constant view of the Ohio River in the winter. The end of the trail is a beautiful overlook. You can hear cars for the entire trail.

Great in late autumn because you have many magnificent views through the leafless trees as you climb higher and higher!

Wonderful 2-hour adventure. Handmade-look trail with a lot of switchbacks was not too easy but nice scenery towards the Ohio river satisfied me a lot. Don’t forget the permit in hand to enjoy this trail.

The Raven Rock hike requires a parking permit and a Nature preserve access permit. You can apply for that online. It’s a lot of climbing and switchbacks but worth the hike when you get to Raven Rock and the panoramic view. It took us about 70 minutes in and about 40 minutes out. Beautiful . Today was perfect weather to hike, sunny and 54 degrees.

Great trail for a day’s hike. Visited my son @ Shawnee State College for a day and wanted to enjoy the outdoors. Took us 1.5 hours up and 40 minutes down. Probably less time for more avid hikers. Beautiful view at the top! Parking isn’t great and the trail head isn’t distinguishable from the road.

The trail needs a permit. The trail is a little tough. It is straight up for must of it. But it is pretty fun. Once it you hit the top.

Magnificent view! Best in the county by far. The climb up is challenging (at least for a 56 year old--young people were passing me by like it was nothing!). View from the top is worth it though. While this is still one of my favorite trails, it's one negative is a pretty big one to me. You can clearly hear the sounds of the busy highway everywhere along the trail. This REALLY detracts from the peacefulness. Otherwise great, so long as you are up for a climb.

If you don't like walking uphill, this isn't the trail for you, but if you power through and make it to the top, the scenery is breathtaking and worth it. The trail is relatively easy to follow. The back exit trail is closed as of 07/09/20. I don't know what for. I didn't check it out, so you have to go out how you came in and it adds about another half a mile to the hike, but it's mostly downhill. It'll definitely burn some calories going up. It's also covered by tree tops for most of the hike, so it seems cooler because you're in shade most of the time. It was 94 degrees out yesterday when we went and the shade made it way more comfortable. All in all, it's a trek getting up with a huge payout at the top and downhill all the way back to the car, which your legs will thank you for later. Have fun and be careful.

Gradual constant incline, nice hike up. We took the back trail down; much steeper decline but faster way back to parking. Views were beautiful! Tons on red ticks on trees.

The trail explicitly says no pets in 3 separate places but every person we ran into had a dog. Also, nobody reported having a permit either, which is technically required to be in the preserve anyway. There is parking for 3 cars at the trailhead, but they were full so we parked in the church parking lot alongside the road a little way up. I Hiked the trail with my dad who is having knee surgery in a week. He didn’t have any trouble. The trail is a bit steep in places, but most people would be able to hike it without a problem. The leaves were heavy on the trail at one point and my mom slipped as she stepped off the trail due to the leaves. Overall, it’s a quaint, lightly trafficked trail that is definitely worth the view.
