Get an early start if you want to avoid the crowds. Started at 8am and were finished by 11am. It’s was a hot day, but it stays pretty cool in the gorge.

One of my favorite hikes in Ohio. Here are some tips if you never done this or havent yet this year with the changes. 1) They have implemented a 1 way system at the Old Man's Cave entrance which have footprints marked in the sidewalk that shows the direction and will start you at the Upper Falls. This 1 way system will only last about 1 mile in this area. 2) Once you get to Cedar Falls, another 1 way system starts. You can avoid it though after you get off the first foot bridge (before the 2nd foot bridge) and walk up the stairs, you will see the signs stating the 1 way system begins but if you go right up the gravel path/hill it will take you to the picnic area and then you just follow the blue blazes. 3) This trail is completely connected to the Buckeye Trail the entire time, so just follow the many blue blazes you will see. 4) Another 1 way system starts at Ash Cave. 5) Be mindful that it will be crowded with non-hiking tourists at Upper & Lower Falls, Old Man's Cave, Cedar Falls and Ash Cave. 6) Recommend hiking the extra 1/2 mile or so to Whispering Cave at the Hemlock Bridge sign between Old Man's Cave and Cedar Falls. 7) Upper Falls had no water flowing down and Lower Falls only had a trickle of water coming down. Recommend going there in the spring if you want to see them flowing 8) You will do a lot of ups and downs, have to maneuver over/around/through rocks, be mindful or tree roots you'll have to step on/around. This place can get muddy in places but pretty easy to get around it. 9) This trail is longer that the 9+ miles it states. You will do around 12 miles...pending on how much you walk around the tourist spots to site see.

Trail looked great. One-way direction signs changed it a bit as they directed you up to the visitors center at the lower falls.

Was an amazing trail for our first time coming to Hocking Hill. Magical, made me think of Winnie the Pooh’s hundred acres :) Had a good mix of flat and subtle climbs. Great views and took some awesome photos. Also loved that it ran into many other trails - you can really plan out how far you want to go and for how long. Good for beginners or intermediate hikers!

Stunning. I followed this on my way out but I logged 11.2 miles because I stopped at Cedar Falls and took the upper falls trail on my way back. Perfect day hike. Would love to get out here again

For me this is the best hiking trail in Ohio. The trail has 7 main waterfalls along with Old Man's Cave and Ash Cave to explore. It is best to start this hike at the trailhead at the far end of the parking lot that starts the Grandma Gatewood Trail so you don't miss Upper Falls and Devil's Bathtub.

There is so much to explore along the trail. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to enjoy every inch of this trail. My friend and I took about 3 hours on the trail.

Great trail. a couple of parts are just difficult enough to make you feel like you're working, but it's mostly a really pleasant walk through the woods.

100% dog friendly trail. We hiked, as very inexperienced hikers, with 4 people and 3 large dogs. The trail was not EASY but it was a very fun and mellow hike. We went from Old Mans Cave to Top o’ the Caves campground.

A classic and must-do in southern Ohio. Old man’s Cave itself is great for families and hikers of all skill levels. The hike from the cave to cedar falls might be difficult for some families due to some of the terrain. The park also tends to get very crowded even in the early morning. Regardless, do this hike!!

only reason for a 2 star rating is due to the trail being closed at cedar falls.

The trail goes through some awesome rock formations and gorgeous views. I’m 77 and did have some trouble getting through some of the boulders/tree roots...but the hike was worth it.
