Old Man Cave, Whispering Cave, Cedar Falls Loop is a 7.5 mile loop trail located near South Bloomingville, Ohio that features a lake and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking and walking.
This is one of the best hiking trails in Ohio. The only issue with this mapped trail on this app is that with the newly implemented one way systems along this route, it needs to be remapped accordingly as you can't just follow this precisely as it is. You will see multiple waterfalls, caves, foot bridges, rock formations, cliff overlooks, streams and a gorge/lake. *Note to self: go to Hocking Hills more often this time of year as there wasn't hardly any people there compared to the spring and summer.
Crowded at Old Man’s Cave but falls off after Lower falls. You have to choose Whispering Cave or Cedar Cave at this time because trails go one way to prevent cross traffic to help with distancing. Whispering Cave is spectacular and the trees on the trail were in beautiful fall colors.
Lots of people and families. which is... is what it is. slowed things down. all the trails have been switched to 1 way which throws off the maps and planning.
Really nice hike. Just as people are saying, it isn’t very well marked and trails just run together. We ended up accidentally cutting it short and missed cedar falls completely. You really have to have the app up constantly and check the map. Otherwise since some parts are more rigorous it was quieter than the heavily trafficked places. Lots of people at Old Man’s Cave, but Whispering Cave was empty. Would have liked to hike longer, but we really enjoyed what we did get to see.
Tooooo many people! Trails not marked well had no idea where in the heck I was going. Cut the trail short and left!
Excellent hike and a great way to see a bunch of sights at Hocking Hills. My GPS watch recorded this trail at 6.8 miles instead of the listed 7.5 miles. It took us about 2 hours and 30 minutes moving time at a pace of 2.7 mi/hour. We took an additional 30 minutes to have a picnic at Whispering Cave which was very peaceful on a Thursday shortly before sunset, after a little rain. Definitely bring snacks and lots of water! Be aware, there are a few steep climbs that may not be suitable for older or out-of-shape hikers.
