Getting There

Level ride along the canal. (7 miles) As this section of trail contains no locks, it is ultimately flat. There are a few "bumps" as the trail dips into gullies that once had culverts. The canal in Navarre originally went right through the center of town. The town has reclaimed all that for residential use but there is a trail built along the Tuscarawas River.

Stark County Park District 330-353-2377

Waterworks Park is at the northern end of this section right off of Wooster St. in Navarre (N40 43.522 W81 31.744) There is a portajohn and a short watered section of the canal. Trail trail continues across the street and continues south. Craig Pittman Memorial Park (N40 43.225 W81 30.646) is off of Hudson Dr. on the East side of Navarre. While more park is ocross the road, here there is a portajohn, pavillion and a canoe launch. Dolphin St. (Rt.212) is the southern terminus of this section. (N40 39.304 W81 29.095) There is a portajohn and parking for only 5 or 6 cars. To connect further south requires riding Rt.212 2.25 miles through Bolivar. And there the trail connection is waithing for bridge completion across Rt.77.

overall pretty smooth ride with lots of shade. I was out on a day that there had been a lot of rain earlier in the day and the night before. 95% mud/puddle free but there was one spot a little bit north of Navarre where there was a puddle about 10 feet wide and several inches deep. I saw a half dozen deer, two snakes and a nice assortment of birds. Be careful about 3 miles north of fort laurens there's a tight S curve with a fairly steep grade. watch your speed, it almost got me!

I enjoyed this trail for an easy walk run with my dog. It’s flat and easy to navigate. It’s green with some pretty views. My dogs spotted all kinds of critters. We saw deer, snakes , turtles, birds. It is buggy I would recommend repellant. Also , watch out for horse droppings.

This was an excellent trail for beginners or for easy walking. The portion u walled with my dog was very flat, straightforward, easy to navigate. The ground was packed gravel and the edges were well maintained. Beautiful walk by the canal, though may be boring for experienced hikers. My dog loved it!

Good trail mostly packed gravel a very few scattered loose spots. Bright spots the aqueduct/wooden bridge over the Tuscarawas river, The tunnel under the still in use N&W RR, spotted a baby deer right on the path. Whole trail is wide enough for two bike groups to pass single file.

Lovely clean wide trail. Tried to bike it but was too steep in parts and I only made it 3 miles. Hiked the whole thing 5 times now and enjoyed the remoteness feel
