Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath: Wilbeth to State is a 7.9 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Akron, Ohio that features a river and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail.
For most of the trail you will see people's backyards, and the rest will be construction sites, factories, or an impound lot with an oil well. We saw ducks, but they were floating with plastic bottles and random garbage. I swear the only reason this route ends is because you pass a factory that smells like dirty diapers and maple syrup and that's a good place to turn around. Some parts are probably nicer w/ some foliage though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Sidenote: I will say that if you are weird like me and enjoy places with a decaying industrial/dystopian kind of vibe, then you will like the area north of where this route begins.
this was kind of scary, in a rundown neighborhood. barbed wire throughout the path, litter in the water area... will not do again!
Paved bike trail through an industrial area—glad to see it is a model of restorative ecology and the investment in the local neighborhoods and protecting nature, but it is not a very pretty walk.
Pretty ugly section. Most of it runs through industrial lands, so there isn’t much quiet until south of Vanderhoof Rd. The entire section is on the OECTT, so it’s really flat and easy to hike or bike.
Very nice, casual hike. Nothing too strenuous, but the ledges are great fun. While you are not technically allowed to climb the rocks, there are plenty of spur trails in valleys and caves. Great for kids too. The Happy Days visitor center is the closest one - maps can be gotten there. There is no charge for this National Park.
