Compacted gravel. A little bit hilly and drop-off sides at bits. The river was lovely. Mostly a quiet ride and not too crowded on a Saturday. Would do it again. We did have a kid bike trailer and we were okay.
Great trail, well maintained. Amazing scenery and follows the river for the most part.
Beautiful stretch of the Towpath. It wasn’t very busy today but I have noticed how packed it is on weekends.
Trail conditions were fine, but otherwise the only redeeming quality of this portion of the Canalway/Towpath is that it was the last part of my section hike of the whole trail. This section is MONOTONOUS! Perhaps OK on a bike, but to hike it as an out and back of 11.25 miles was not fun.
Mostly fine gravel and a very flat, easy trail. Ft. Laurens is a litle piece of history and so are the canal locks and worth learning about as you walk the grounds. Well-traveled trail, especially bikes. Swamp, Tusc River, turtles, chipmunks, squirrels, birds. I have biked, kayaked and hiked this trail/waterway. Nice area.
I hike this section of the Towpath Trail often and love the history of Fort Laurens, the canal and Zoar, Ohio. Lock 7 is a great place to take a break and sit on the bench and relax. This section of the trail is very clean because the Bolivar - Zoar Rotary club has adapted it. They are presently developing a park at the Canal Lands trailhead which also connects to Zoar Lake trail.
