Hiking

We hiked the gorge trail (labeled as the Grandma Gatewood/Buckeye trail on some maps) on the way out and took a section of the Cedar Falls trail (G to GG) to get to the Gorge Overlook trail. It worked out nicely since the gorge trail has some more challenging sections of rocks and roots, but the overlook trail was very wide, flat, and easy on the joints on the way back. There was still ample parking when we arrived around 10:30am, but there were very few spots left when we finished around 2pm.

Let me tell you that it was ridiculously icy, you will definitely be moving at a snail's pace. It took my brother and I seven hours to roughly hike ten miles, just trying to figure out how to navigate as safely as possible. The park closed at 5:00 pm, but we tried our damnedest to pack in as much adventure as we could. We definitely underestimated the time it would take with it being so icy, that we ended up hiking in the dark with headlamps back around to the vehicle and didn't exit the woods until around 7:30 pm. On our way starting to drive home we got pulled over by a Ranger that noticed we were out at the park after hours. The Ranger was pretty cool and let us go with no ticket and was just making sure we were alright. I don't blame him for stopping us though, we were literally the only car left in the entire parking lot. Although it was very icy, strenuous and painful to some degree, it was a pretty cool experience to get out during the winter, see the waterfalls and take in what Hocking Hills really has to offer. #Epic

Awesome forested hike with nice waterfalls and geological cliff formations. Areas were very icy so come prepared. Excellent hike for a winter day.

Amazing! I was the first one here on a Thursday in January, I didn’t see another human for 2 hours!!!!! No snow, no ice, however there must have been some cuz there were patches of mud. Gorgeous, magnificent and beautiful!

Great trail! It goes by Old Man's Cave - there's some difference between the names on AllTrails and the actual park markings.
