A nice trail, with a creek and rock formations. However, the Early Buttercup (one of the other two trails connected together with Crawdad Creek at Chatel Nivale) has more and more picturesque examples of both. Despite the name, you climb pretty high up at first, and the creek is pretty far below you most of the way. Last third of the trail you walk beside and through the creek, however. You cross through water a total of four times, but it was very shallow even after days of rain. Also, there was no trouble climbing back up the other side, which in one case is not true of Buttercup. Of the three trails here, this is probably the toughest, because it has the most climbing, but it still deserves it's "easy" rating. You also pass near a farm at one point, so this is the only one of the three trails where you hear the noises of civilization (though only for a little bit). I suggest doing all three Chalet Nitale trails together for a total of a little over 3 miles. Crawdad Creek will be the last one if you go in order, but you could walk the length of the connecting trail and do it first and work your way back.

This was a pretty good trail. Super easy! 3 trails all were under 1.3 miles. Only thing is you do have to cross the creek multiple times so come prepared to get wet feet. As another said there is also a newly emerging beehive on the rock side. Creek bed is mostly rock to so it's a nice one to walk through & snap pics or just want to let the kiddos cool their toes! :)

HikingGreat!Rocky

Beautiful plants, views, creek and cave and rock formations. The trail was very clear. There are a couple spots you have to cross through the creek but was very low even after a rain. I wore gym shoes and didn’t get my feet wet. Also saw a beehive in the rocks and that was pretty awesome but some people should be aware. I walked right up on it and heard it but my husband didn’t. I had to point it out to him. Never seen a natural one in person before though so that was neat.

Great short trail. You have to cross the creek like 5 or 6 times, so be prepared. i would've loved to hit the other two trails here, but we were out of time once we finished this one!

First to Review

Pleasant trail with lovely streams. It's an easy hike with a few water crossings. It is closed for a few days in late December and early January for controlled hunts.
