After parking in the gorge, you'll cross the bridge and head south until you run into the markings for the Gorge Loop Trail. You'll gain some elevation right away on the steps and a little over a mile later, you'll end up back near that bridge. Head north towards the dam that creates Caesar's Creek Lake, climb it, and then head east on the gravel area adjacent to the road until you get to the Flat Fork area. Just past the restroom facilities, you'll head west toward the lake and enter the woods. You'll continue on this trail, passing multiple lake views and the spillway where you'll continue on until you reach a swinging bridge. The falls are just west of this area. On the trip back, you'll take a slightly different route to minimize any overlap, making this more like a loop than an out and back.

My grand beasts and I call it “the edge of the world” trail....great views without foliage and a beautiful well kept trail with many places for young kids to explore

Fun hike! There is a spur off to the creek to look for fossils and the kids loved looking for them!

This was a beautiful fun hike for the fall with my 4 year old. Different walking paths with stairs, rocks, pavement and lots of different trees, bushes, flowers, streams, lakes and rocks. We loved it and highly recommend it for little legs. Perfect length!!!

Hiked the trail with kids 9 & 12 they enjoyed including the concrete channel to the left of the dam outflow and across the top of the dam along the road over to the spillway that connected back to the gorge trails. The far west trail was posted "closed due to erosion" but still passable on 7/14. About 6 feet of trail is eroded into the creek but stable to walk on if you are careful. 2 mile total this route.

Signs say closed but you can make it all the way around with no issues. Just a few slippery spots on one of the downhills. And a few nice shallow easy entry spots for the puppy to swim in the creek

It was a good trail but you are not able to complete the loop because it's close at one point due to erosion.

This is my favorite local trail to bring my pooch for a pleasant walk. She loves the hike and cools off with a quick swim before heading home.

Great little trial with a 240' ascent and descent. We normally park at the Flat Fork Ridge Recreation area and cross over Clarksville road to get to the upper part of the loop.

From the parking area cross over Clarksville road and follow the wood-line to the left (south) until you hit the old Clarksville road grade. This is the actual trail at this point. From there you turn right to follow the old roadbed down (a 240' descent) into the Caesar Creek Gorge.

The northern half of the loop follows the old roadbed west along Caesar Creek. Once you reach a bridge the Gorge Rim trail will turn left. If you cross the bridge, there is a trail that goes beyond the loop into Caesar Creek Gorge State Nature Preserve, which you can hike as an out-and-back.

At the westernmost point of the loop, before the bridge, you will turn left and follow the trail up (240' ascent) a series of well maintained flights of stairs out of the gorge. Generally the entire trail is wide and open, though this western edge of the trail does narrow a bit and has quite a bit of poison ivy encroaching on the trail in the heart of summer, so beware.

Once you have climbed to the top of the ridge you have the option to go left or right as there is also another complete loop on top of the ridge. I recommend going left as that is the wooded and more scenic half of the upper loop. (If you go right the loop will quickly come out of the woods into a prairie area above the Caesar Creek Lake spillway). The upper wooded area is filled with trilliums in the early- to mid-April timeframe.

The upper part of the loop will eventually come back out on old roadbed and you can find your way back to the parking area from there.

Note: If you park at the Flat Fork Ridge Recreation Area lot you will need to cross Clarksville road, which is not terribly busy but does have a 55 mph speed limit. So, use caution crossing the road. Alternatively you can park below the Caesar Creek Lake dam, in which case you will cross a bridge over Caesar Creek and join the loop along it's northern side.
