This is my favorite trail to take new hikers on. I Take my friends and we park a car at the winking lizard in peninsula and then start in Boston. Then hike the 4.5 mile section of the buckeye Trail to the Winking lizard, grab some food and a cold beer and that's that. Along the way there are some nice overlooks of the valley if you can ignore the turnpike below you. It is the easiest section of the buckeye train in the CVNP outside of when if follows the towpath. There is a gradual uphill at the start and then is flat for the rest until maybe mile 4 and it goes down and back up. and that is it. ez pz

I have hiked the buckeye trail cvnp section many many times and the section between Boston and Peninsula is probobly the easiest and has the best views. Just have to imagine and pretend that the turnpike is not there in at one of the valley overlook spots along the way. I usually don't take the towpath back to Boston from Peninsula just do an out and back and it's a nice day hike through the valley. If you have a buddy with you you can always grab a cold drink at the Winking lizard in Peninsula before you head back too or grab a pint of Mitchell's ice cream from the trail mix store in Peninsula on a hot day and then head back to Boston.

We took the O & E Canal Trail south from the Boston Visitor Center and did a relatively short loop out on the Buckeye Trail, taking it back to the Cuyahoga River and the Towpath. There were several very nice views of the valley along the way.

Very nice place. Trail is well marked but overgrown in some places and very muddy in others. Only complaint was the massive amount of Mosquitos. Lots of challenging but doable hills, nice scenic ravines, a very good mix of all of what Ohio nature has to offer.

love that trail but it needs some work and you cant find the markers that mark it. it runs along a very steep ravine and there has been some rock slides and undermining of the trail pleas stay off the edge of the ravine do to slop conditions.

I did a portion (5 miles) of the buckeye trail in piketon. about 2 miles off 124 and the other 3 miles down by the pike lake state forest. the 2 miles I did off 124 i spent most of the time removing fallen trees and limbs from the trail. I plan to return in the spring and continue "grooming" the trail. the rating reflects the condition. but nice rolling hills, quiet surroundings.
