Awesome little afternoon adventure. The ice caves are pretty cool and taking a flashlight to explore the bigger one is a good idea. The caves are very small and there are 5 or 6 of them hidden around the area. The small forsted area near the ice caves is probably the most scenic part. There are also some cool rocky areas that you can play around in and form a natural tunnel you can crawl through. Great place for begging hikers. Do not use Google maps as it will take you to a farmhouse with some extremely u pleasant farmers who will cuss you out and scream. Overall a perfect afternoon hike for all ages.
We tried to get to the trailhead two ways. One we couldn’t even get through with a pickup and had to turn around. The other was posted “no trespassing, no trail access” from the land owner. The info on the posted sign was Joe Vessy 863-6779
As we drove along Scrait Woman Road we had to turn around. There are very deep and long ruts in several spots. I have an Outback and turned around 3 miles before we hit the trail head. Please use caution especially if you are driving a car with low ground clearance.
We hiked in from the magpie Campground which made the hike way longer but it was a great view the whole way. Bugs were absolutely horrible. Horse flys everywhere except at the caves.
Very easy trail if you follow the wood posts and go straight to the ice caves. The aspen loop was pretty and there are many examples of geological formations to observe.
